Calgary Zoo – Wild Canada Aurora Soundscape & AV

We scripted and produced an immersive outdoor soundscape for the new Aurora sculpture at the entrance of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s newly developed Wild Canada exhibit. Collaborating closely with the Zoo and project partners a soundscape experience was envisioned and created to accompany the sculpture and lighting.

The central theme of the soundscape is shifting through the sounds of the seasons of the Canadian wilderness with the distinct species and natural sounds of each season, with an indigenous welcoming song and percussion which is the “heartbeat” that weaves the piece together. The indigenous percussion ties the sections together and alludes to the connection between humans, animals, and land. As part of the “sounds of the aurora” visitors at times here atmospheric elements that evoke the sense of light and swirling of the aurora.

We were honoured to record the Blackfoot Confederacy drummers in studio and to produce the soundscape with custom sound design and editing for all elements for the outdoor surround sound experience. Ambient provided AV design for the experience having spec’d, supplied, and installed the hardware for the soundscape experience.
